As an artist who imbibes the researcher self, Mimi Salibio nourishes her creativity and self-reflexivity by engaging in social surveys among diverse individuals and developing an analysis to further her reflective processes and artful compositions.
A year in the making, Salibio’s exhibition, “short stories: a collection of fiction,” investigates the boundaries of the earthly and metaphysical worlds which derive from numerous descriptions of what a fictional image is by various strangers. The artist interprets these personal dispositions through her textile work, ultimately discovering alternate realities to the concept of fiction. Salibio meticulously uses thread and fabric to interpret a selected compilation of narratives, encouraging poetic discourses between the artist and her artwork, and the artwork and the observer.
Although the responses of the participants in the survey vary, the emphasis of Salibio’s series progress toward her distinctive curation of tales and visual anecdotes - a creative means for introspection, deepening her path of artistic growth, and making her core artist self visible.
